This week’s Dorman High School Male Athlete of the Week is Cole Smith. Cole helped the Boys Swim team to a Region 2-5A Region Championship over the weekend.  Smith had personal best swims in all of his events to earn himself All-Region honors.  In his first event of the day, he sprinted to a 3rd place finish in the 50 free (24.80) to podium in an individual event for his first time ever. He followed that right up with another amazing personal best swim, placing 2nd in the 100 butterfly in 58.82. This placed him back onto the podium for both of his individual events. Finally, he helped the team with points one more time leading off the boys 200 freestyle relay to take them to a 2nd place podium finish time of 1:41.30.  “Cole plays an important role on the team with butterfly and freestyle events. He has put time in the pool in the off-season for several years and he continues to develop as a swimmer. With commitment and focus on his technique and speed, along with strength training over the next year, Cole will be an integral part of the boy’s team next season. Cole is a supportive and caring teammate who looks for ways to make those around him better” says Head Coach Amy Bailey.  For being selected as the Male Athlete of the Week Cole will receive a framed certificate and t-shirt.

This week’s Dorman High School Female Athlete of the Week is Olyvia Moore.  Olyvia helped the Lady Cavalier Swim team to a 2nd place finish in the Region Meet.  The Cavaliers came up 7 points short to Spartanburg in the end; however, Olyvia swam to two automatic state cuts in her individual events. First up was her 200 IM where she blazed her way to a 2:17.63 to earn a spot on the podium in 3rd place. Next, she raced the 100 freestyle in a 57.15 to finish in 4th place. Both of her relay squads finished in 2nd place with the 200 Freestyle relay, finishing in a time of 1:46.85, and the 400 Freestyle relay in 3:57.68.  “Olyvia demonstrates a happy and positive attitude on a daily basis and encourages her team through her hardworking example. She has been a versatile asset to the team all season long and exhibits the willingness to swim whatever events are necessary for her team” says Head Coach Amy Bailey.  For being selected as the Female Athlete of the Week Olyvia will receive a framed certificate and t-shirt
